As one of South Africa’s oldest wholly Black-owned architectural and development planning firms, ACG Architects has stood as a pillar of excellence, innovation, and transformation since it was founded in 1993 by Mr. Hassan Asmal and Mr. Malcolm Campbell both qualified & Professional Architects. Over the past 31 years, ACG has played a pioneering role in shaping South Africa’s architectural landscape, delivering architectural solutions that merge technical precision, innovative design and sustainability with social responsibility. Today, the firm enters a new chapter as it announces a leadership transition, honouring the legacy of Mr Malcolm Campbell while embracing a bold vision for the future.
Honouring a Legacy of Excellence: Malcolm Campbell’s Leadership
Under Malcolm Campbell’s tenure as CEO, ACG solidified its reputation as one of South Africa’s leading and longest-standing wholly Black-owned architectural firms. His vision, technical expertise, and commitment to the profession have left an enduring impact, ensuring that ACG remains a trailblazer in the industry. Through leadership, he guided the firm through periods of growth and transformation, upholding the highest standards of architectural and development planning excellence. As he transitions out of this role, his legacy stands as a testament to his unwavering dedication to the built environment and the empowerment of Black professionals within the field. The Founding member Mr. Hassan Asmal is still an active Director in the firm, supported by Mrs Ilham Gabier also in capacity as director and Landscape Architect.
Introducing the New Guard: Mrs. Shameez Mohamed, CEO
Stepping into the role of CEO, Mrs. Shameez Mohamed brings with her a wealth of experience in financial management, corporate governance and compliance, Human Resources and strategic operations. Shameez served as the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) at ACG and has been directly involved in managing the day to day running of the firm. She has been instrumental in driving the firm’s financial sustainability and operational efficiency.
Beyond her professional accolades, Mrs. Mohamed is also a devoted wife and mother of three, balancing the demands of leadership with the values of family and community. Her ability to navigate these spheres with grace and determination reflects her holistic approach to leadership one that is both strategic and deeply personal. She is ushering in a new era of inclusivity, innovation, and access to quality opportunities for Black professionals in Architecture and Development Planning.
