Apart from symbolism in terms of flight, the building also serves as a strong nautical reference to the maritime context within which it is set.

This theme is followed through in the detailing of the walkway structures, where the lightweight roof is hung off angled masts by a series of cables.

The design picks up on the regional theme of white walled architecture which is common to the western cape.
